 Course Goals for 2005-06

 

The main goal of the 11th US History and Government course is for each student to be successful on the New York State Regents.  As we prepare for this challenge we will also be refining skills  and building the knowledge you need to be successful students and citizens.

 

Course Expectations

 

Several years ago we worked together to become Social Scientists.  You may remember that a good Social Scientist is someone who

 

 

These characteristics of a good Social Scientist are still the key to reaching the goals that we have set. If you put forth a sincere effort toward developing and exhibiting these characteristics, you will be successful!

Grading Policy

 

We will be following the general grading procedures found in the Student Handbook. The US History and Government Regents will be serving as our final exam.

 

In each ten-week period, your Social Studies grade will be figure using the following categories and weights:

 

 

All Classwork can be redone for higher grades.  Quiz and tests cannot be retaken, though remedial opportunities may be provided. Students are expected to fully complete homework and other classwork by the assigned time. Missing work will be counted as a zero in the classwork average.  Late work will receive a five point deduction if not completed at the assigned time and then an additional five points a day will be deducted for each day late.  These points cannot be made up.  Students who are absent on the day classwork is due have until the end of the day they return to school to hand in the work.

 

 

11th Grade Classroom Rules

 

1. 2 TR – do you remember it? 

            *Treat everyone and everything with Respect!

            * Take responsibility for your learning and actions!

 

2. Be in the room by the time the bell rings for class.  If you are late bring a pass.  You are responsible for any work you miss. You will receive one warning each 5 week  - 2nd offense will result in making up the time afterschool.  Additional offenses may be considered level 2.

 

3. No food or drink in the classroom.

 

4. Do not interfere with your colleagues learning.

 

5. Come to class prepared.

 

6. School attendance policy is in effect.  Students have five school days from the day of their return to make up any classwork, quizzes, or tests.

 

7. Ask for permission to go to bathroom or lockers.  Please sign out and in.

 

8.  We will be following the other rules found in the Student Handbook and Discipline Code.
